Collective Solutions: Expanding Our Repertoire
Social scientists have identified aspects of communications where seemingly small diferences in emphasis can lead to large diferences in how the communication is understood, interpreted, and acted upon. Solutions are possible actions to take to address a social problem. Efective framing of solutions for climate change supports public engagement in the issue by establishing that problems have solutions, and it directs the public to consider collective, public responses to social problems.
This document details the social science research behind a community-level approach to communicating on climate change solutions, including helpful tips on how to provide examples of climate change solutions on the community-level, incorporating solutions from multiple sectors of society, and avoiding words and phrases that trigger partisan cues capable of derailing your solutions conversations.
