sample high school volunteer training
Each spring we train 80+ high school students to work as volunteers in our exhibit galleries. Since 2009 they have been talking about climate change with the visiting public. Their training consists of one hour in the classroom (this ppt) followed by on the job training with HS alumni mentors. We added strategic framing into the lesson last year, although we have no delusions that they will become skilled framers. More, we are using it as a way to talk about climate change in a hopeful and solution focused manner. By hearing the concepts of values, framing and solutions, we have seen a shift in how they talk with our guests about impacts. Please feel free to use and let us know how it works for you!
